NZ and AUS Tournament Requirements - WT Approved

NZ and AUS Tournament Requirement's:

 

Do you need a World Taekwondo (WT) approved uniform for competitions?

NZ - No, although it is highly recommended, currently in NZ they do not strictly enforce the use of WT approved uniforms. However, this may come into affect in the future so don't get caught out!

AUS - Yes, you must be wearing a WT-approved uniform at all competitions.

WT sanctioned G-Ranked Competitions - Yes, WT approved uniforms must be worn at these events. 

 

Do I need to wear a WT approved specialist Kyorugi (sparring) uniform for competitions? (Black Belts only)

NZ - No, although it is highly recommended, currently in NZ they do not strictly enforce the use of WT approved specialist kyorugi uniforms. However, this may come into affect in the future so don't get caught out!

AUS - No, although it is highly recommended, currently in AUS they do not strictly enforce the use of WT approved specialist kyorugi uniforms. However, this may come into affect in the future so don't get caught out!

WT sanctioned G-Ranked Competitions - Yes, specialist WT approved kyorugi uniforms must be worn at these events. 

 

Do I need to wear a WT Approved specialist Poomsae (patterns) uniform at competitions? (Black Belts only)

NZ - Yes, all black belt poomsae competitors (adults and children) are required to wear a WT style poomsae uniform. Points will be deducted for not wearing one.

AUS - Yes, all black belt poomsae competitors (adults and children) are required to wear a WT approved poomsae uniform. Points will be deducted for not wearing one.

WT sanctioned G-Ranked Competitions - Yes, specialist WT approved poomsae uniforms must be worn at these events. 

 

Do I need WT Approved Protective Equipment at Tournaments?

NZ - No, although it is highly recommended, currently in NZ they do not strictly enforce the use of WT approved protective equipment. However, this may come into affect in the future so don't get caught out!

AUS - Yes, you must be wearing a WT-approved protective equipment at all competitions.

 

BE CAREFUL many brands claim that they are WT approved when they are NOT. A WT logo on the item does not mean it is WT approved. Check the WT website and make sure the uniform or protective equipment is one of their approved brands and that they have the updated WT logo. 

WT approved gear is expensive so make sure you purchase an approved brand.

WT approved uniforms and protective equipment has been independently checked to ensure it meets the strict safety and quality requirements of World Taekwondo. When purchasing KWON WT approved Taekwondo gear, you can be assured of its high quality and commitment to safety. 

The following protective equipment is compulsory at a WT tournament:

  • WT approved head guard (cadets/juniors can wear the face shield)
  • Transparent or full white mouth guard (no colours, no logos)
  • WT approved gloves 
  • WT approved chest guard
  • WT approved arm guards
  • WT approved groin guards (male and female)
  • WT approved shin guards
  • Foot guards
